Questions and Answers:
How much do AP exams matter when applying to college?
Am looking to apply to sleetiest colleges and I want to know how much AP scores matter. How much do they matter in terms of credit in college as well as looking good on your college AP. Do colleges even look at your AP scores when judging you?
Answer: Colleges do look at basically everything when judging you and AP scores look a lot better on your application then say- ridiculous stupid duel enrollment. I've been taking a few AP classes myself and got a 4/5 on my AP Lang comp. Test. If your score is a 3 you'll be accepted by most average colleges. Anything above a three can be considered for ivy league colleges, anything below a 3 is practically rubbish and you might want to consider having that score wiped. >> ap classes on your application also show that you did harder than college work in high school and an AP grade is weighted higher than honors and average classes in high school. Hope this helps :)
How many AP courses would be recommended to get into an ivy league college?
Took AP world in sophomore year and now as a junior I am taking AP chem, AP English, and AP us history, but I am planning to drop AP us. In senior year I will take four AP courses. I have taken almost every honors class's available and my GPA is a 3. 9
Answer: Theree's no required AP course load to get into an ivy. I know a girl who was accepted to Columbia, and only took one AP course. However, it was the only AP course her school offered. Ivys-all colleges- look at more than just your course load and GPA. Test scores, essays, recommendations, extracurriculars, and awards all matter too. But colleges do like to see that you've had a rigorous course load and taken advantage of the opportunities you've been given. If Shelley and bob go to the same school, and Shelley has a slightly lower unweighted GPA but took more AP courses, then Shelley is more likely to be accepted into a "better" college. All that being said, AP courses count for more than honors courses. And four AP courses isn't that all many. (though i'm not sure if you're saying you'll have taken 4 AP classes total or 4 AP classes as a senior). You don't want to overload, but like someone said earlier, apish is a great class's. If you think you can handle the class's, then take it. It will only up your standing when come admissions time. Best of luck.
What's the difference between AP English language and composition and AP English literature?
Ll, my current English teacher said that he "hated to admit that AP lit. Is more fun than AP langauge". What is the big difference? Is AP lit credit less likely to be accepted in colleges?
Answer: Interestingly enough, I am currently taking a course called AP English literature and composition, so kind of an amalgamation of the two. However, on my report card, this comes up as 3 different classses: AP English literature and composition, English literature 12 and English 12. The university that I am applying to seems to have both AP English literature and composition and AP English language and composition, yet when I self-admitted my grades I believe my choices were English 12 and English literature 12 and AP English literature (w/o) the 'composition. ' confusing, yes. Looking at sample AP English language and composition exams, they seem to be more opinion based free responses compared to the AP English literature and composition exams which are more analytical towards literature and literary techniques. So that may be the difference there. However, if there is just an AP literature class's, I would assume that it would be like English literature 12 in which the focus is on specific writers and poems and the ability to recognize and analyze both. So essentially, no AP lit should not be less recognized by colleges, however, if you are planning on going into a specific post secondary school, you should check which AP program they accept or if they even accept them at all and base your decision on we there or not you really want to go to that particular school, or if you want to learn literary techniques or langauge/opinion writing techniques. I hope I cleared something up for you, even if I may have confused myself more...
How many AP classes should I take to get into a really good private university?
Going to be a junior. Next year I am taking AP English 3, AP human geography, pre-ap algebra 2, pre-ap German 3. But I'm taking regular physics and history. And another elusive (avid) should I take more than that? Like maybe AP physics? I'm freaking out b/c I really need to make this year count and I want to go to a good university, such as pepper dine. Will two advanced core classes be enough?
Answer: Try to take as many as you can, but don't take more than you can handle. Because you will hurt yourself in the long run if you take too many an get poor grades. Your schedule seems decent, and AP human Geo and AP English aren't all too hard. Try to get into at least an honors/pre-ap course for physics and history though. Grades and AP classes are important, but they aren't everything. If you really want to get into a good school, study hard for sat/act and be involved in clubs/extra curricular activities as well.
