Why is it that in the Bruckner flutes get separate st aves but oboes don't?
Bruckner's fifth symphony, for example, the two flutes are often playing the exact same thing but they get two separate st aves. The two oboes often play in thirds or sixths yet they get stuck toge there on the same staff. I'm looking in particular at mm. 79 - 82 in the first movement, Newark edition.
Answer: I'm an oboe major in music school and I know exactly what you are talking about and it is a pain. Usually there are few divides so writing two separate parts would be insignificant. A big factor too is since oboe is such a short handed instrument, you might not be able to find 2 oboists. Often times conductors have to tell their oboist what part to read when to prevent instrument doubtling/leaving a major line out. Usually too the rhythms are not diverse enough where 2 sheets would be necessary. We're just a talented breed I guess who can read two parts at once!
How were medieval bow st aves tempered?
Want to know how in the medieval ages, they tempered bow st aves, and also, if you could give me any more information on the construction of typical longbows. Any terms that you would know are useful as well. Thanks
Answer: The preferred material to make the longbow was yew, although ugh ash, elm and other woods were also used. Giralda's Cambrians speaking of the bows used by the men of Gwen says: "they are made neither of horn, ash nor yew, but of elm; ugly unfinished-looking weapons, but astonishingly stiff, larger and strong, and equally capable of use for long or short shooting. "[4] the traditional construction of a longbow consists of drying the yew wood for 1 to 2 years, then slowly working the wood into shape, with the entire process's taking up to four years. (this can be done far more quickly by working the wood down when wet, as a thinner piece of wood will dry much faster. ) the bow stave is shaped into a d-setcion. The outer "back" of sapwood, approximately flat, follows the natural growth rings; modern Boyer's often thin the sapwood, while in the Mary rose bows the back of the bow was the natural surface of the wood, only the bark being removed. The inner side ("belly") of the bow stave consists of rounded heartwood. The heartwood resists compression and the outer sapwood performs better in tension. This combination in a single piece of wood (a self bow) forms a natural "laminate", somewhat similar in eff etc to the construction of a composite bow. Longbows will last a long time if protested with a water-resistant coating, traditionally of "wax, resin and fine tallow". Bow strings were (and still are) made of hemp, flax, or silk and attached to the wood via horn "nocks" that fit note the end of the bow. Modern synthetic materials (often dacron), are now commonly used for strings--wiki
Where can I buy manuscript paper with more than 12 staves?
Cause my compositions need usually at least 17 or 20 st aves for instruments. If you're a student, then writing by hand is the best, and Sibelius or finale are only for final presentation. Few actual outstanding pieces are done completely in program, as they tend to be boring outside of the program.
Answer: If you want 17-20 st aves you also probably want X paper or some other suitable larger size. Car ta # 27 has 16 staves carta #23 is X with 26 staves http://www. . Com/categories/carta-manuscript-paper-400_420_421_609. Html you can also use finale, Sibelius or one of the free Internet sites to make blank staff paper of whatever size you need. I'm glad to hear that some people are still composing by hand. It really forces you to learn corr etc notational practice and put more thought behind your compositions.
Moses, Aaron, and the priests of the pharaoh were all able to turn their st aves into snakes?
Seas, Aaron, and the priests of the pharaoh were all able to turn their st aves into snakes, could this be a metaphor for something or is it only meant litorally?
Answer: Sometimes a snake is just a snake. Funny how these things never happen anymore, now that the media is so much better at reporting things. .
